Once Upon A Time in Bharatha Desham

Author: Mahesh N Kotekere

Pages: 234

‘Once Upon A Time in Bharatha Desham’ by Mahesh N Kotekere is a collection of short stories. The stories revolve around a King who wants everyone to be treated equally, who believes his subjects to be his family. But in a system where there are many people there are times when we get to experience various types of corruption, the stereotypes that have been followed since long back, casteism, etc. will it be possible to overcome these problems? The stories not only revolve around these social issues but also shows us how ones beliefs can also come true when we put all our trust in the universe and things come to us even if they are a bit late. To know more about these wonderful stories and to know how this King is truly trying to break all these societal issues and create an ideal place for everyone be it an animal or human to live read ‘Once Upon A Time in Bharatha Desham’.

My Thoughts:

I really loved the writing style of the author. The stories really show us how when one person is trying to break the stereotype there are others who are trying to stop him. We also get to see examples where we understand that nepotism is a thing which was practiced even at that time and the minds of these people work only to benefit for themselves. In short, the plots of each of these stories will surely teach the readers a lot.

The characters are beautifully created. The friendship between the King and his friend is very rare to see nowadays. We get to see the pride, greediness, love, trust, guiltiness and all the other emotions and feelings through the characters in the stories. Overall, the characters are relatable.

Language is simple and lucid. The narration is done beautifully. Also, the author has depicted certain situations very aptly and how the characters deal with them is also worth seeing.

The book cover is beautiful and the title of the book is also apt to the stories.

Overall, I really enjoyed reading these beautiful stories and would surely recommend to all.
