A Year without Summer
Author: Shreyan Laha
Pages: 365
‘A
Year Without Summer’ by Shreyan Laha is a story that is set in the year 1816
when the temperature suddenly falls down tremendously which results in widespread disease in Kolkata. Our protagonist Sharat is
also affected by this whose parents too get infected by the disease. On the
other hand we have Niharika who lives with all the modern amenities.
Both had no idea what life had planned for them when all of a sudden they are
left on an unknown planet with no knowledge of where they are and what lies
ahead of them. To known more read A Year without Summer.
My Thoughts:
The plot is very unique and will
engage the readers till the end. The author has done detailed research while
writing the plot which can be seen while reading the story.
The world of ‘Nocturne’ is
created beautifully and in detail description of the planet adds to the story. The
author has gone ahead and given us details about the working of the planet. The
landscape of the planet is all given in detail in the chapter ‘Exploring the
New Universe – New Barren Lands (Unknown)’.
The characters are well-developed. There were too many characters in
the book which can be confusing for some but overall they were well developed
and each of them had their own plus points and negative points.
The language is simple and lucid and the readers will go through the
book easily.
The book cover is mysterious and suits the plot of the story. It will
surely create an interest in the mind of the readers as to what the book is all
about. The title of the book was a bit confusing but as the readers get into
the story the book title also makes sense.
Overall, I liked the book and would surely recommend it to all the
sci-fi lovers.
My Rating:
5/5
