Love Letters with Spelling Mistakes
Author: Dr. Vaijayanthi Subramanian
Pages: 220
‘Love
Letters with Spelling Mistakes’ by Dr. Vaijayanthi Subramanian is a collection
of eight short stories. Each story is about how Indian women are facing
challenges and also discusses about the social constraints that are laid upon
them. In early days there were restrictions there were believes that people
used to follow without even understanding the logic behind them. But what about
now in this 21st century too people are still blindly following the
previously made so called rules!?
I
loved the writing style of the author she has handled all the prevailing topic
that we somehow find in India. Be it female infanticide, gender bias,
stereotyping all the topics are handled efficiently. These are so imbibed in us
that we sometimes don’t even notice that we ourselves are directly or indirectly
doing it in some way or the other. Like in one story an actor is playing a role
but in reality too she is facing a similar problem and it is very hard for her.
The
language is simple and lucid and the narration is done beautifully. The pace of
the stories is also perfect.
The
cover page and the title of the book is apt to the theme of the book. It will
surely attract the readers.
The
plot is beautifully written and each story has its own uniqueness. The
characters are well developed and are relatable.
Some
of my favourite stories are:
·
Love
letters with spelling mistakes
·
A
stage of reactions
·
At
the end of waves
Overall, it is a nicely written book and also the stories are written in
such a manner that the readers will surely connect to them.
I would surely recommend this book to all those who love reading short
stories.
