The Fragile Thread of Hope

The Fragile Thread of Hope
Author: Pankaj Giri

“The Fragile Thread of Hope” is a story of love, loss, grief, loneliness and hope.  For me it was a complete emotional roller coaster and we get to meet some beautiful characters like Soham, Falguni i.e. Fiona and Shanti i.e. Sharon and get to know about their stories as kids, teenagers and finally as adults.
We get to see the struggle that each of these characters have gone through and how they overcome them and don’t lose hope and how they are there for each other in a way and how they lead their lives instead of going on the wrong path which normally a person would go if he/she has suffered so much.

Shanti: Shanti is a girl who likes to study and go to school but due to some circumstances, she had to leave her school at a young age and had to take the responsibility of day to day work of home. But this was not the end soon afterwards she also loses her mom but doesn’t give up hope on leading a happy life. But destiny has other things reserved for her. What happens in her life does Shanti leads a happy life or are there struggles that she has to go through?

Fiona: Fiona has a dark past and it still haunts her. She has become a girl who stays away from boys and has had some bitter experiences in the past due to which she is not ready to put her trust in people. She stays away from boys and avoids talking to them. Will she find somebody who she can confide in and share all her bitterness and overcome them?  Will she put away her bitter experiences of the past and  be able to put trust in people?

Soham: Soham is his father’s favourite son and he is happy how his father praises him in comparison to his brother. He loves his brother but somehow wants to be like him (the famous boy in the school and handsome as well).  But something goes wrong in the family with somebody’s death and from then Soham could never confide in somebody. He always used to keep to himself and has never been able to share his feelings with anybody and  then when he finally thinks that he has met a girl who he can confide in something happens which leaves him devastated. Will he able to find somebody in his life?

To know this and more read The Fragile Thread of Hope.

What I liked about the hope: The book depicts a real life situation. What people through in life and how they overcome the difficulties as a family and are there for each other during times of difficulty and help each other.  I even got to know the Sikkim traditions and how festivals are celebrated there. The characters are strong and very much real. It was a very emotional read but I am very happy with the ending. The book tells us not to lose hope and to hold on to it.

Favourite Quotes from the book:
1.            If thousands of tears could make a pathway to heaven, then I’d shed trillions to build a stairway, and if memories were a lane, I’d walk all the way just to bring you back.”
2.            Living in this world without you, is living in no world at all. Living in this world without love, is living in a worthless world.
3.            When faced with an obstacle, the river alters its course, but never stops flowing, never gives up.
4.            Whenever the gift of happiness is bestowed upon you, embrace it an savor it till it lasts, because long and unforeseeable is this life, and fragile is the thread of hope you must cling on to.

I enjoyed reading the book and looking forward to read more books from the author.
